Platform Specific Information

The following table displays the platforms, compilers and PVM or MPI versions that we have used to prepare the executables and object libraries. Other versions (especially older ones) are not guaranteed to work with this release of the ADF package. Please contact us if you have problems running ADF on your platform.

If you have the source files and intend to compile the code yourself, the installation procedure will also use a few object files that are only distributed in binary format. Therefore, your compiler must be binary-compatible with the one we used to prepare them.

Machine-specific comments

  • Windows: the Windows version has been prepared and tested under Windows 2000 and fully tested under Windows XP. Some tests were also performed on Windows 98. No tests have been done on Windows ME but it should work there. ADF2004 does not work on Windows NT or Windows 95. Please contact SCM Support if you would like to use ADF on these platforms.
  • PC Linux: the PC Linux version should work on Pentium III, Pentium IV, Intel Xeon, AMD Athlon and Opteron, and compatible hardware. It may not work on older hardware such as Pentium II and Pentium Pro machines. There are two versions of ADF for Linux: for RedHat 7.x and 9.x. The latter is expected to work also on RedHat Enterprise and Advanced Server. These versions should work on other Linux distributions as well, if they have the same or more recent kernel and glibc.
  • Itanium2 Linux: This version was compiled on an HP Itanium2 machine with RedHat Linux Advanced Server 2.1AS (glibc-2.2) but we expect it to run on Itanium2 Linux computers of other vendors. There's another Itanium2 Linux version of ADF - for SGI Altix. It was prepared with the same version of Linux (RedHat Advanced Server 2.1AS, glibc 2.2) but with different MPI (SGI MPT-1.8.1).
