Platform Specific Information

The following table displays the platforms, compilers and PVM or MPI versions that we have used to prepare the executables and object libraries. Other versions (especially older ones) are not guaranteed to work with this release of the ADF package. Please contact us if you have problems running ADF on your platform.

If you have the source files and intend to compile the code yourself, the installation procedure will also use a few object files that are only distributed in binary format. Therefore, your compiler must be binary-compatible with the one we used to prepare them.

Machine-specific comments

  • Windows: the Windows version has been prepared and tested under Windows XP. It works under Windows 2000. No tests have been done on Windows 98/ME but it should work there. ADF2005 does not work on Windows NT or Windows 95. Please contact SCM Support if you would like to use ADF on these platforms.
  • PC Linux: the PC Linux version should work on Pentium III, Pentium IV, Intel Xeon, AMD Athlon and Opteron, and compatible hardware. It may not work on older hardware such as Pentium II and Pentium Pro machines. The Redhat 9.x version is also expected to work also on RedHat Enterprise and Advanced Server. These versions should work on other Linux distributions as well, if they have the same or more recent kernel and glibc.
  • Non-RedHat x86 Linux versions: users who have a different from Red Hat Linux distribution often have a question which ADF version to download. The answer depends on the GLIBC version. For distributions that use glibc-2.2 one should download the RH7 ADF version. Users with glibc-2.3 should download the RH9 version. Here is a short list of Linux distro's for each glibc version.
    glibc-2.2: Debian 3.0, RedHat 7-8, RHEL 2.1, Slackware 8, SUSE 7.1-8.1
    glibc-2.3: Debian 3.1, Fedora (all), RedHat 9, RHEL 3+, Slackware 9+, SUSE 8.2+
If your Linux is not on the list then you'll probably find it on DistroWatch.com
