In the ADF2008 release, SCM uses HP-MPI for the Windows version. This allows ADF users with a multi-CPU or multi-core machine to run ADF significantly faster. This HP-MPI version can only be downloaded by users who have signed the new End User License Agreement (EULA) or the HP-MPI addendum together with the old-style license agreement. Usage of HP-MPI for ADF is free of charge.
If you only have single-CPU single-core Windows machines, it will be easiest if you continue using the serial ADF2008 version for Windows also available on our website. In this case, you do not need to sign anything new, as you would not benefit from the parallel capabilities anyway.
If you want to use the parallel version, it may be needed to upgrade your license. In that case you should contact SCM to inform us of which Windows machines you wish to use ADF on and how many processor cores each Window machine has. We will then inform you if this is possible within your current license. If not, we will send a proposal for an upgrade of your license.
An example (using indicative prices only):
If you currently have a 1-core ADF binary ("A1") license for a single academic research group (priced at 480 Euros/yr in Western Europe) and are running ADF on one or two dual-core or a single quad-core Windows machine, we would recommend you to upgrade to an "A4" ADF license, which is for a maximum total of 4 processor cores. Such a license costs 600 Euros/yr, which implies 120 Euros upgrade charge for a full year or 60 Euros for a 6-month upgrade. If the upgrade amount is small, SCM may decide to waive it or to propose to combine it with a license renewal for another year.
For any remaining questions, feel free to contact SCM.
