Job summary
SCM, a software company located in Amsterdam and operating in the area of computational quantum chemistry, is looking for a scientific software developer. The developer's tasks will include a mixture of development, implementation, testing, porting, and debugging work in SCM's ADF, BAND, and ADF-GUI software programs. User support and various forms of cooperation with the academic ADF and BAND developers will also be part of the job.About SCM and ADF
Scientific Computing & Modelling NV (SCM) is a spin-off company founded in 1995 by the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. SCM develops, maintains, and markets the Amsterdam Density Functional (ADF) package, consisting of the molecular ADF program, the periodic structure program BAND and the ADF-Graphical User Interface, ADF-GUI. ADF is used by a growing number of computational chemists and physicists around the world.The working atmosphere at SCM is informal and intellectually challenging. In daily life SCM is part of Prof. Baerends' well-known Theoretical Chemistry (TC) group. The TC group consists of about 20 people, including a very international mix of Ph.D students and postdocs. SCM cooperates with a large and growing number of academic ADF and BAND developers around the world. Amsterdam is a very lively, internationally oriented, and enjoyable place to live.
About the job
Requirements:
- Excellent programming skills
- Experience in quantum chemistry or electronic structure theory
- Academic level of thinking
- Good written and verbal communication skills in the English language
Desirable additional knowledge and experience:
- Experience with programming in a team
- Working knowledge of Fortran(90)
- Knowledge of ADF or BAND
- Technical skills (UNIX, script languages, debugging, etc.)
- Ph.D. title in relevant field
- Willingness to travel for ADF promotion and capable of properly representing ADF at such events
What we offer:
The position will initially be a contract for one year. It will be converted into a permanent position as soon as the candidate has proven to be suitable for the job. The tentative starting date is April 1, 2004. In case of an excellent candidate, there is room for negotiation concerning starting date and/or temporary versus permanent nature of the position. Salary and secondary benefits will be competitive. Additional tax advantages (30% of salary tax-free) may be available for a successful candidate from abroad.
