General info about the license options

We recommend that you first have a look at the How to buy section, and in particular the details about license options before browsing through the questions below. That section gives the most detailed information.

Questions

Answers

What happens after I submit my online purchase order?

Upon receiving your purchase order we will confirm the order by E-mail. In this E-mail we will also confirm the license fee required.

Next we will wait for the signed license agreement (preferably by fax). Of course you do not have to wait for the purchase order confirmation to send in the signed license agreement, you can already do so directly after submitting your on-line purchase order.

You may postpone signing and forwarding the SCM License Agreement until your Purchase Order has been accepted and confirmed, but that may delay your access to the software.

What happens after I send in the signed license agreement?

Once the signed license agreement has been received, you will receive a username and password. These enable you to download the ADF software from the download page at the SCM website.

Also, we will send you a confirmation and an invoice for the applicable fees.

Can I start immediately or do I have to pay first?

You can start immediately after we have received your informal purchase order confirmation by E-mail and your signed license agreement.

Where can I find the prices for non-academic licenses?

Only academic prices are available on our website. To get a price quote for other licenses (Commercial, Non-profit/Government, Computing Center), use the Price Quote form, or contact sales@scm.com.

What, in short, is the pricing system for the ADF package?

Standard licenses allow you to use the licensed modules for one year on a number of machines (host-locked). Multi-year, perpetual, and floating licenses are also available. Standard licenses include the right to run ADF in parallel on multiple platforms and to use new releases of the licensed modules without additional charge. The price of the license depends on the number of CPU's / cores.

Can I get also the source code?

The major part of the source code of ADF and ADF-BAND is available to the users at an additional charge. Scientists interested in developing ADF further can contact us on possibilities for cooperation and technical assistance by SCM, and for possible discounts on the source code or whole license fee. Certain parts of the source code are not public. This includes the parts of the code related to our license checking procedure and, sometimes, parts of the code which the original developers wish to keep hidden for the time being, because of their scientific novelty.

What happens if I want to upgrade my license later?

In case of any type of license upgrade, we will only charge price differences and only for the time period of the upgrade, thus making it easy and attractive to upgrade.

May I switch the CPUs in my license file?

In case you buy more powerful machines you might want to replace the license that you have for your older, slower CPUs with the CPU(s) of the new machine. There are two solutions. Either you can extend your license to a larger number of CPUs/Tasks, or you can switch the machines. The latter possibility will be provided at any time, provided it does not happen too frequently.

I have further questions. Who should I contact?

If you still have questions that have not been answered yet, please contact us at sales@scm.com.
