While ADF is "more" supported for PVM than MPI, PVM is pretty much
obsolescent at this point, and I'd consider going with MPI. I've built
recent versions of ADF for MPI without any real problems. MPI requires less
setup for the worker nodes (like no need to have pvmd running, etc.).

To be more specific, I've used the MPICH implementation of MPI, which is
available free from www.mcs.anl.gov.
