Dear ADF-list members,
(ADF users with a current contract should have received this E-mail already.
If this is not the case, please notify us of this fact at admin_at_scm.com so
that we can update our mailing lists. The only new information in this
E-mail is that a free demo license file for the ADF-GUI has been placed
on the ADF2002.02 download page.)
This E-mail informs you of:
- a new (minor) release of ADF: ADF2002.02
- the beta release of an ADF output visualizer: ADFview
- the upcoming release of the first Windows version for ADF
- SCM's presence at the WATOC'02 conference.
ADFview beta release
--------------------
SCM is proud to announce the beta release of the first module of the ADF-GUI,
entitled ADFview. ADFview enables the 3D visualization of ADF output
such as orbitals, densities, and electrostatic potentials.
ADFview can visualize any property calculated on a regular grid by the
densf utility. To get a quick impression of what ADFview can do, please
take a look at the pictures on http://www.scm.com/Products/GUIInfo.html
or download the ADFview tutorial from the Documentation section of our
website. ADFview is available on all platforms supported for ADF2002.02.
The ADFview tutorial leads you through the various options in about
30 minutes. The densf utility has been drastically simplified
(input is no longer required) to make the visualization of results
even easier.
ADF2002.02 release
-------------------
These changes are available in the most recent version of ADF, which
has been labeled ADF2002.02. Apart from densf and ADFview, ADF2002.02
differs very little from ADF2002.01 except for the fact that a bug in
the COSMO implementation, which caused several crashes, and some minor
bugs have been removed, as also mentioned in the Updates document.
Windows version for ADF
-----------------------
ADF2002.02 is available for various popular platforms. In a few weeks
this will include, for the first time, an ADF Windows version. This
version has been produced with the Cygwin Unix emulator under Windows 2000
Professional. It has been tested on Windows 98 and NT. It has not
yet been tested for Windows XP. We are currently doing the final tests
and documentation. Check our website in a few weeks to see if the Windows
version is available.
Free try out of ADFview and Windows version for ADF users
----------------------------------------------------------
SCM offers all ADF users with a current contract the possibility to
try out both the (upcoming) Windows version of ADF and ADFview for free,
until September 1, 2002. After that, a license for the ADF-GUI
will be required to run ADFview and other upcoming modules of the
GUI. The Windows version will be treated as any other version after
that date. A free demo license file for the GUI can be obtained from the
download section of our website and added to your current license file.
Future plans for ADF-GUI and suggestions
-----------------------------------------
In the near future we plan to release a beta version of a second module
of the ADF-GUI, which will be entitled ADFinput. Its purpose is to
facilitate the building of an ADF input file, through a menu-based
interface. Many other modules are planned after that. We appreciate
receiving your suggestions for functionality that you believe should
be included in future modules of the ADF-GUI. Suggestions for improvements
and reports of problems for ADFview or the Windows version are of course
very much appreciated as well.
WATOC '02 conference

Dr. Erik van Lenthe and Dr. Stan van Gisbergen will represent SCM at the
WATOC '02 conference in Lugano, Switzerland this August. Please stop by
our booth for a GUI demonstration or to learn more about upcoming new
functionality or some of our future plans.
Best regards,
Stan van Gisbergen (on behalf of the SCM team)
