Dear ADF-list member,

SCM, together with Prof. Baerends' TC group, is currently investigating
possibilities to start research projects related to ADF with funding from
the EU. The most interesting possibility at this time seems to be the
individual Marie Curie Fellowships. These are submitted by an individual
postdoc together with the host institute he/she wishes to work in.

SCM and the large and renowned Prof. Baerends' TC group are in practice
a unity and can form what is called an interrelated group. SCM invites any
(future) postdocs who may be interested in such possibilities to contact
us for further details. We believe that SCM and the TC group combined can
form a perfect environment and provide expert guidance to postdocs on any
of the subjects below.

Some possible projects could be:
- Born-Oppenheimer dynamics in ground and excited states
- Environment effects (protein, solvent) on molecular properties
  (electric and magnetic)
- Extension of relativistic methods in ADF
- Geometry optimization in BAND
- other suggestions are very welcome

The candidate should:
- be a member of the EU (or perhaps an "associated member state")
- have sufficient experience in software development
- preferably have theoretical chemistry background and sufficient expertise
  in the proposal subject
- have no objection that the new functionality will become available
to the ADF users at some point in time.
- preferably be able to accept a new position before the end of 2003.

Any research proposal should be purely scientific, not technical, in nature
and should have an emphasis on method development in ADF or BAND.

A first deadline for submitting proposals to the EU is March 12, other
deadlines will follow later.

If you are interested (or know someone who might be suitable and interested)
in this, we are very much interested in hearing from you.

Best regards,
Stan van Gisbergen
