Subject: Postdoctoral position in Computational Chemistry

A position for a postdoctoral researcher in computational/theoretical
chemistry will be available at the State University of New York (SUNY) at
Buffalo, USA, http://www.chem.buffalo.edu. The intended starting date is
Oct. 2004. The position is available for one year, with a possible
extension for another year.

The research projects are concerned with the influence of the chemical
environment on NMR parameters in transition metal systems, the calculation
of optical activity of transition metal complexes, and the prediction of
spectroscopic signatures ("fingerprints") and structure -
magnetic-property relationships of nano-scale materials.

We are looking for a creative individual who is trained as a
computational chemist, who has a strong background in transition metal
chemistry and/or experience with the computation of magnetic
properties of molecules and/or the calculation of absorption spectra
and response properties, and who knows how to handle several
computational projects at a time efficiently. Programming experience
is not essential but may be considered as an advantage. Good
communication skills in English are required.

The starting salary will be around US$ 29,000/year but can be
negotiated in case the candidate is particularly qualified. The position
comes with an attractive New York State fringe benefits package.

We have excellent computational resources available. Besides the
group's own new 20 processor Linux cluster, soon to be extended to about 3
times its current size, we have access to the high performance
computing facilities at the Center for Computational Research (CCR,
http://www.ccr.buffalo.edu) at the University of Buffalo. Our research
is strongly supported by the CCR. For details on our research program,
a list of recent publications, and related information please visit
our group's web site at http://www.nsm.buffalo.edu/~jochena

Buffalo is a lively city located in the western part of the State of
New York, USA, near the Canadian border. The greater Buffalo area has
a population of about a million. It has many local attractions,
galleries and museums, a large number of annual events and festivals,
and recreational sites within easy reach (e.g. the nearest skiing
resorts as well as the Niagara Falls are reached by car within 30 to
45 minutes). On the Canadian side, Toronto is close enough for a
day trip. For the sports fans Buffalo has popular football and hockey
teams.
