Postdoctoral Position in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
I am currently looking for a postdoctoral fellow to join my research
group. The initial appointment would be for one year with the
possibility of renewal thereafter, depending on mutual interest as well
as the availability of appropriate funds.
Research project:
Method and program development aiming at creating a new DFT-based
method for the calculation of NMR chemical shifts and ESR g-tensors in
extended structures (solid state, surfaces, etc.); computational
chemistry applications of the new method.
Background:
The applicant must have a Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry or a closely
related field. Extensive experience with programming and
quantum-chemical program systems is required for this position.
Knowledge of the ADF/ADF-BAND program systems, knowledge of
relativistic quantum mechanics, or maintenance of computer clusters are
assets.
Application:
Interested candidates for this position should send me a detailed CV,
publication list, and the names and contact details of at least two
referees.
Research group:
The research of my group is focused on developing density functional
theory (DFT) based methods and applying them to study molecules and
their properties. We are particularly interested in developing new
methods for the calculation of NMR chemical shifts and ESR g-tensors.
Moreover, we are interested in the chemistry of the early actinide
elements (particularly U, Np, Pu, Am). For more details, please contact
me directly or refer to my web pages at:

Environment:
My research group is located in the department of Chemistry at the
University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. The University of Manitoba
(http://www.umanitoba.ca) is the largest University in the province of
Manitoba and among Canada’s major research universities. It has a
student population of about 23,000. The Chemistry Department
(http://www.umanitoba.ca/chemistry) is one of the largest departments
in the University of Manitoba, yet it keeps a friendly and
collaborative atmosphere.
Winnipeg ( http://www.city.winnipeg.mb.ca ) is a prairie city with a
population of approximately 675,000. Its people come from various
ethnic backgrounds, and are generally friendly and welcoming. Excellent
cultural amenities include ballet, theatre, symphony, ethnic festivals,
and museums, and professional sports teams are popular. Housing is
perhaps the most affordable in Canada. Winnipeg is a safe city. It is
located close to good outdoor recreational activities with a wide
variety of lakes, beaches and wilderness areas within aneasy drive of
the city.
