Hi,
this confusion results from the use of the GUI; within the GUI,
all tapes are renamed, so for instance a TAPE21 will be renamed
to INPUT.t21, and likewise also the TAPE41 will be renamed to
INPUT.t41.
TAPE41 and all other TAPEs are binary files, and should be used
as binary; e.g. you can immediately open it within ADFview.
The only thing where you'd need dmpkf is when the TAPE41 was made
on another machine (for instance on Linux) and you want to use
ADFview on a different machine (for instance on Mac); then you'll
need to dmpkf the TAPE41 on Linux to make it to ascii, transfer
it to the Mac, and udmpkf it there to make it binary again (but
then the binary format of Mac, which is different from the binary
format on Linux).
