The scientists employed by SCM all have Ph.D.s in theoretical chemistry, have many years experience in program development, and communicate fluently in the English language. We provide expert support to the ADF, BAND and COSMO-RS users, offer assistance to external ADF developers, and implement the improvements in our programs that are desired by the users of our software.
| Dr. Olivier Visser SCM Ph.D. 1992 Born 1964 |
Dr. Olivier Visser obtained his Ph.D. degree in 1992 in relativistic quantum chemistry with Prof. Nieuwpoort in Groningen; he then joined the theoretical chemistry group in Amsterdam. Soon his interests moved from traditional research work to software development, beginning with the ADF parallelization project. In recent years, the further development and support of the various Graphical User Interfaces have become his primary responsibilities.
| Dr. Erik van Lenthe Software Developer Ph.D. 1996 Born 1964 |
Dr. Erik van Lenthe obtained his Ph.D. degree for the development of the ZORA method (relativistic approach used in ADF and BAND). He next held postdoc positions with Prof. van der Avoird in Nijmegen and with Prof. Baerends in Amsterdam working on the inclusion of relativistic effects (such as spin orbit coupling) in methods for spectroscopy (ESR, NMR, electronic excitation energies). Since joining SCM Erik has become involved in the detailed algorithms inside ADF, basis and fit sets, the implementation of hybrid functionals, and COSMO-RS.
| Dr. Alexei Yakovlev Software Developer Ph.D. 1999 Born 1968 |
Dr. Alexei Yakovlev received his Ph.D. degree with Prof. G. M. Zhidomirov, modeling catalytically active sites in metal-containing zeolites. He then worked five years as a postdoc in the catalysis group of Prof. van Santen at the Technical University of Eindhoven, applying ADF to zeolites. At SCM, he is our primary expert on all technical aspects of the code: optimization, debugging, installation scripts, preparing Windows binaries, code tweaking, merging new code from academic partners. He also works to implement in ADF well known algorithms and features that are of interest to our customers.
| Dr. Pier Philipsen SCM Ph.D. 2001 Born 1964 |
Dr. Pier Philipsen's Ph.D. thesis with Prof. Baerends had the simple title "Solids and Surfaces", true to Pier's nature. The thesis contained a number of developments for our periodic structure DFT code BAND. After some years in other software companies, Pier returned to SCM to take charge of further developments in BAND. This includes speed, functionality, and usability (BAND-GUI) improvements. Pier is also famous for his music, including the official song for the DFT2007 conference.
| Dr. Matt Kundrat Staff Scientist Ph.D. 2008 Born 1976 |
Dr. Matt Kundrat earned his Ph.D. in computational chemistry with Professor Jochen Autschbach after previous work in synthetic inorganic chemistry. As such his publications have ranged from those in experimental chemistry, to those in purely theoretical chemistry, where he wrote his thesis in modeling the chiroptical properties of molecules in solution using TDDFT. Matt began representing SCM at international conferences even before formally joining the team in Amsterdam. Since then he has increasingly become involved in improving the documentation of our software, customer support and marketing.
| Mrs. Frieda Vansina Office Manager Born 1958 |
Mrs. Frieda Vansina took over the role of office manager at SCM in early 2009. She is in touch with our users regarding many practical matters, including those involving contracts, invoices and license files. |
