Mechanistic insights into temperature-responsive deep eutectic solvent for product recovery and solvent recycling

Solvent recycling highlight 2026

A recent paper in Separation and Purification Technology reported the use of AMS COSMO-RS to gain mechanistic insights into temperature-responsive deep eutectic solvent systems for product extraction and simultaneous recovery applications, combining experimental results with thermodynamic modelling. AMS COSMO-RS was used to support the interpretation of the observed phase behaviour by predicting activity coefficients and temperature-dependent solution equilibria of the studied components.

The COSMO-RS calculations enabled a quantitative analysis of solvent–solute interactions and miscibility trends, helping to rationalise changes in phase stability and extraction performance as a function of temperature. These results provided molecular-level insight into the driving forces governing the responsiveness of the deep eutectic systems and complemented the experimental observations, demonstrating AMS COSMO-RS as a predictive tool for the design and optimisation of tunable solvent systems.
